Privacy Notice
Last updated: November 2026 · Summary: Zero telemetry, 100% local video conversion, no accounts or tracking.
1. Desktop Application Privacy (Zero Telemetry)
HDR to SDR Movie Converter runs entirely on your local device. The desktop application contains no analytics SDKs, no telemetry, no crash-reporting servers, and no user accounts.
- Local Media Processing: Your video files, filenames, folder paths, frame previews, and conversion logs never leave your computer.
- Local Settings Storage: Your UI preferences, custom themes (`look.json`), conversion presets, and unfinished queue resume state are stored strictly on your local disk.
- User-Initiated Network Requests Only: The application only connects to the internet when you explicitly trigger an action:
- Clicking Check for updates queries GitHub's release redirect (`github.com/devgodys/HDR-to-SDR-Video-Converter/releases/latest`) to compare version numbers.
- Clicking Install missing tools downloads official FFmpeg or HandBrakeCLI packages via Windows Package Manager (`winget`) or verified upstream GitHub releases with SHA-256 checksum validation.
2. Website Privacy (openhdrtosdr.com)
This website is a static informational site:
- Local Storage (`localStorage`): When you switch between the Dark, Light, or Neon preview themes on the website, your preference is saved in your browser's `localStorage` (`theme` key) so the site remembers your visual choice on future visits. This data never leaves your browser.
- No Tracking Cookies or Ad Networks: We do not use invasive cross-site tracking cookies, fingerprinting scripts, or behavioral advertising pixels on this website.
- External Links: Clicking download links (GitHub), support buttons (Ko-fi), or product links on the Verified Gear pages (Amazon) will take you to third-party websites governed by their own respective privacy policies.
3. Open-Source Verification
Because the application is MIT-licensed and open source, every line of code — including how files and network requests are handled — can be inspected directly in the GitHub repository.
